REAL LIFE LEARNING IN A REAL HOME
This is not a nursery or pre-school but a home and a family. I believe that in the early days, children belong in a real home environment. A beautiful, happy place where needs are met and cuddles are plentiful. This is a place with Montessori ideas, with quality wooden toys on the toy shelves and where beautiful home-cooked locally sourced food is served from our woodburning oven. A place that offers all the learning, support and opportunities that a formal childcare setting does, set against the backdrop of a cosy family home.
Welcome to Paddock Cottage. You’ll find few unescessary chemicals, additives or processed food, but instead, homemade meals, fruit and veg from the garden, eggs from our chickens, baking from scratch and involvement by your little ones every step of the way.
"My job is not to control, manage and govern, but to nurture, encourage and kindle."
Here at Paddock Cottage, caring for children isn’t just providing childcare, it’s a way of life. A way of life that I believe is wholesome, healthy, nurturing and interesting. We don’t watch TV here, or play on tablets. Not because I believe that screens are bad, but because there is generally something better to do...(and it leaves room for some screen watching downtime when you get home and at the weekend.)
"It’s being involved in life from the start, nurturing from the heart and being inspired every day by the enthusiasm and wonder that comes so naturally to children."
I grew up in a cedar shingled bungalow, down a lane in the heart of the Sussex countryside. Summer holidays were spent playing in the woods and fields with my brother and helping out at our neighbours farm.
WHAT WE DO
I am a firm beleiver in 'real life' learning, in experiencing the world around us through free play and exploration. The outdoors holds so many opportunities for us and I like to get outside every day, sometimes incorporating Forest School activities, sometimes for adventures in the woods or along the riverbank and sometimes trips to libraries, museums and open farms.
Everything is home-cooked from scratch. Vegetables are organic and local. Milk is organic and delivered plastic-free. Our meat comes from local free range farms, visited personally by the butcher at Coughtreys in Pulborough.
Children love animals. Here at Paddock Cottage we have a collection of incredibly friendly pet chickens and ducks. Sometimes roaming the garden and sometimes having rest time in their pens.
